I've recently been looking into home AV distribution systems and I've realised that there shouldn't even be a need for the standard wired solutions when technology like the Chromecast exists and is so cheap. It would be awesome if there was a similarly sized and priced 'companion device' which was kind of the exact mirror image of a Chromecast - i.e. it had an HDMI input and ran a server app to distribute its input over HTTPS. The device could be plugged into an AV source and then a phone app could be used to stream that signal to a Chromecast. With port-forwarding and a public IP it could even be used to watch home AV when away from home. I know things like Slingbox exist but that seems like overkill - does a little standalone product exist along the lines I'm thinking of?

I'm planning on using my hotspot to stream to it but I dont want it to use up all my data.

I've been having some difficulty with connecting to my Chromecast from AllCast on my Huawei P2 phone. My Chromecast is being detected on the app, but when I try to connect it just doesn't connect properly. Any ideas?

So I have 10-14 phones streaming videos 24/7 a day with 50 down. Not to mention a pc and a chromecast for netflix. My current setup is a gateway router modem + asus rn12 and I have the devices spread amongst both routers. But I notice that sometimes the routers stop working and the internet does not work (its not slow, it doesnt load anything) the only way to fix this is to restart my modem gateway. Is my modem bad? What router do you guys recommend ?

Is there a tweak that allows any video played to be casted? It could be an option like switching between Bluetooth speakers or iPhone.

I am looking for an app that would basically let me project to the screen a white board or post note to my screen. Something where we can put notes up and maybe have it have a snap feature like xbox one has so you could have notes running and load music in the background. i think i may be asking for to much for chromecasts hardware.

With that in mind, I'll outline criteria: * Wifi only (I won't buy a data plan so don't want to pay extra for 3G capability) * 9 inches or bigger * Don't particularly care about camera * Will use it mostly for watching videos, playing games, browsing, interactive with chromecast... I guess same as most people? * A plus would be easy connectivity to USB/external storage and HDMI * I have a Galaxy S4 which I like (so a TouchWiz tablet is not a bad thing). And I use this for more "on the go" things which is why I don't care as much about the camera or 3G. The Samsung Tab series seems like a good bet but just wanted other opinions.

If I send [this H.264/AAC/AC3 file](http://i.imgur.com/u3d6ikk.png) to my Chromecast using Videostream, is a "media player app" sent to the Chromecast and then the Chrome browser app serves the file with everything decoded directly on the Chromecast or does my computer have to do some of the work? Is it just a direct connection between my computer and chromecast?

Is there any kind of inexpensive streaming box available that it is possible to run PopCorn Time on? I know that I can mirror a video to a Chromecast but I would really like a way to stream videos to my TV without compromising the performance on my computer. Does any such thing exist? I would also be fine with buying something that I could root and install a new OS on if that is a better option for this.
